✨ Maternity Session Preparation Guide ✨

Capturing the beauty of your pregnancy is such a special experience! Here’s how to prepare for your maternity session to ensure you feel relaxed, confident, and glowing.

Day Before Your Session

  • Hydrate & Rest: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin looking fresh and radiant, and try to get a good night’s sleep.
  • Pamper Yourself: If you’d like, treat yourself to a little self-care—moisturize your skin, touch up your nails, and, if desired, schedule professional hair or makeup services.
  • Plan Your Outfits: Choose outfits that highlight your beautiful bump. Flowing dresses, form-fitting gowns, or soft, neutral-toned clothing photograph beautifully. Lay out any accessories, undergarments, or shoes you’ll be wearing.
  • Check Your Partner & Kids’ Outfits: If your partner or older children are joining, make sure their outfits complement yours and are free of wrinkles or bold patterns.
  • Remove Tight Clothing Early: Avoid wearing tight socks, bras, or anything that may leave marks on your skin before the session.

Morning of the Session

  • Eat a Light Meal: Have a nourishing meal before your session to keep your energy up, but avoid anything too heavy or bloating.
  • Keep Makeup & Hair Natural: If doing your own makeup, go for a soft, natural look that enhances your features. Avoid products with SPF as they can cause flashback in photos.
  • Stay Comfortable: Wear a loose-fitting outfit to the session to avoid any marks on your skin. Bring water and any touch-up items like lipstick or a hairbrush.
  • Final Outfit Check: Bring any extra outfits or accessories, and don’t forget comfortable shoes if we’ll be walking outdoors.

During the Session

  • Relax & Enjoy: This is your time to celebrate your pregnancy! Take deep breaths, embrace the moment, and enjoy feeling beautiful.
  • Follow Natural Movements: I’ll guide you through flattering poses, but don’t be afraid to move naturally—gentle hand placements, soft smiles, and looking down at your bump make for stunning images.
  • Connect with Your Partner & Kids: If your partner or children are joining, interact with them naturally—hold hands, cuddle, or share a laugh. These moments make for the most heartfelt images.
  • Trust the Process: Whether we’re outdoors or in the studio, I’ll make sure you look and feel amazing. Don’t worry about posing—I’ll take care of all the details!

✨ Birth Photography Preparation Guide ✨

Capturing the incredible moment your baby enters the world is an unforgettable experience. Here’s how to prepare for your birth photography session to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Day Before Your Session

  • Keep Your Photographer Updated: Let me know if you’ve had any signs of labour starting, such as contractions or waters breaking. Stay in touch as things progress.
  • Pack Your Hospital Bag: Ensure your bag is ready with all essentials, including comfortable clothing, toiletries, snacks, phone chargers, and anything you want for the birth.
  • Prepare Your Birth Plan: If you have a birth plan, share any key details with me so I can respect your preferences and work discreetly within your birthing space.
  • Charge Your Phone & Contact List: Keep your phone fully charged and have your support person ready to contact me when labour starts.
  • Talk to Your Birth Team: Let your midwife, doctor, or doula know that you have a birth photographer so they are aware and comfortable with my presence.

Morning of the Session (or Once Labour Begins)

  • Stay in Touch: As soon as labour becomes active, have your support person update me so I can be on standby and arrive at the right time.
  • Set Up Your Space: If you’re having a home birth, ensure the space is comfortable with soft lighting, music, or any ambiance you prefer.
  • Dress Comfortably: Wear something you feel good in, whether it’s a robe, a loose-fitting dress, or a birthing gown.
  • Hydrate & Stay Nourished: Drink plenty of fluids and eat light, energy-boosting snacks if allowed.

During the Session

  • Focus on Your Birth Experience: My goal is to document your journey quietly and respectfully. You won’t need to pose or interact with the camera—just be in the moment.
  • Trust the Process: I’ll capture the raw, emotional, and powerful moments of labour, birth, and those first incredible moments with your baby.
  • Expect a Variety of Photos: From the quiet strength of labour to your first embrace with your newborn, I’ll document your story as it naturally unfolds.
  • Let Your Support Team Handle Communication: Your partner, doula, or nurse can update me if any changes arise, so you can stay focused on your experience.

Birth photography is all about preserving the powerful emotions and beautiful moments of your baby’s arrival. I’m honoured to be part of your journey and can’t wait to capture these once-in-a-lifetime memories for you. 💕

✨ Newborn Session Preparation Guide ✨

Day before the Session

Avoid scheduling vaccinations the day before your session.

If you’re breastfeeding, stick to familiar foods and avoid anything that could cause gas or an upset tummy for baby.

If possible, keep baby engaged with gentle, stimulating activities to help them sleep more soundly during the session.

If you have other children or toddlers it’s good to organise if someone can either pick them up when we finish with them and take them home, or come to keep them occupied so you can focus on selecting your images without stressing about a toddler running around.

Morning of the Session

Try to keep baby awake for as much as you can before the session so they’re nice and sleepy when we begin.

Feed baby until they’re completely full just before we start the shoot at the studio once we have changed bub into an outfit.

Make sure nappies or clothing aren’t fastened too tightly to prevent red marks, and avoid using nappy cream, talcum powder, or oily moisturisers just before the session.

If you have any special props you’d like included, be sure to bring them along and let us know when you arrive!

During the Session

Our studio will be warm and cozy, so we recommend that Mum and Dad dress in layers for comfort.

If your baby uses a dummy or pacifier, have it handy. If not, no worries! We’ll only return baby to Mum for family photos or if they need a top-up feed—keeping them away from the scent of milk helps them stay settled.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the experience! Feel free to scroll through your phone, catch up on messages, or even take a little rest while we work our magic.

✨ Milestone Sitter Session Preparation Guide

Your baby is growing so fast, and this session is the perfect way to capture their adorable expressions, newfound sitting skills, and personality! Here’s how to prepare for a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Day Before Your Session

  • Keep Baby Well-Rested: Try to stick to their usual nap schedule to ensure they’re well-rested and happy for the session.
  • Hydrate & Moisturize: Give baby plenty of fluids, and apply a gentle moisturizer to keep their skin soft and smooth.
  • Plan Outfits: Choose 2-3 outfits that are comfortable and showcase baby’s personality. Neutral, pastel, or textured fabrics photograph beautifully. Avoid tight elastic bands that may leave marks.
  • Check for Redness or Marks: If baby wears tight socks or hair accessories, remove them a few hours before bedtime to prevent marks on their skin.
  • Pack Essentials: Gather nappies, wipes, a change of clothes, and any special props or toys you’d like to include in the session.

Morning of the Session

  • Keep Baby Happy & Relaxed: Avoid overstimulating activities before the session so they arrive in a good mood.
  • Dress Baby in Loose Clothing: This makes outfit changes easier and helps avoid red marks from tight-fitting clothes.
  • Give Baby a Full Meal: A well-fed baby is a happy baby! Feed them before the session to keep them content. If bottle-feeding, bring extra milk just in case.
  • Bring Comfort Items: If your baby has a favorite toy, dummy, or blanket that helps soothe them, bring it along.

During the Session

  • Let Baby Lead: We’ll capture a mix of smiles, giggles, and natural expressions. If baby needs breaks, that’s completely okay!
  • Encourage Natural Play: We’ll use toys, sounds, and interaction to capture genuine moments of joy and curiosity.
  • Stay Close but Relaxed: Your baby may feel most comfortable when you’re nearby, but try to stay calm and let them engage naturally with the camera.
  • Expect Some Wobbliness: If baby is still mastering sitting up, we’ll have soft, supportive props on hand to keep them safe and comfortable.

Most importantly, enjoy the session! This milestone is such a fun stage to capture, and these memories will be treasured forever. 💕

Capturing Your Family as They Truly Are – Not Just Posed Perfection

Our family sessions go beyond traditional posed portraits—they’re about capturing the love, laughter, and real moments that make your family unique. Whether it’s playful giggles, unexpected toddler meltdowns, or those quiet, tender connections, we focus on preserving the moments that truly matter. To help you have a relaxed and enjoyable experience, here are some tips to make the most of your session.

Making the Experience Fun for Your Kids

  • Set a Positive Expectation: Talk to your children about the session as an exciting adventure rather than something they need to “behave” for. Let them know it’s all about having fun, playing, and being themselves while I capture those joyful moments.
  • Make It About Connection: Explain that the session is a special time to be together as a family and show how much they love each other. When kids feel involved, they’re more engaged and excited.
  • Choose the Right Time: Schedule the session when your little ones are typically happy and well-rested. Avoid times when they might be hungry or overtired to ensure a smoother experience.
  • Bring Comfort Items: If your child has a favorite toy, blanket, or stuffed animal, bring it along! These familiar items can provide comfort and add a personal touch to your photos.

Keeping the Session Stress-Free

  • Embrace the Unexpected: Kids can be unpredictable, and that’s okay! Stay calm and patient—I’m experienced in working with all moods and will turn even the most unexpected moments into beautiful memories.
  • Pack Essentials: Bring along some easy, non-messy snacks and water. A quick snack break can work wonders if little ones need a boost.
  • Trust the Process: Even if things don’t go exactly as planned, trust that I’ll capture stunning moments. Your confidence helps set a relaxed tone for the whole family.
  • Let Kids Have a Say: Giving children some choice—whether it’s picking a location, suggesting a game to play, or bringing a favorite outfit—helps them feel excited and involved. If they insist on wearing their superhero costume, let them bring it along! We can always capture both their special outfit and the look you have in mind.

Final Touches for a Relaxed Session

  • Arrive a Little Early: This gives everyone time to settle in, get comfortable, and start on a relaxed note.
  • Be Yourself! The best photos come from natural interactions, so let go of expectations and just enjoy the moment with your family.
  • Relax and Have Fun: The session is about celebrating your family’s story—so embrace the fun, go with the flow, and let the magic happen!

I can’t wait to capture these beautiful, genuine moments for you! 💛✨

🎂 Cake Smash Session Preparation Guide 🎂

A cake smash session is a fun and messy way to celebrate your little one’s big milestone! To make the experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible, here’s how to prepare.

Day Before Your Session

  • Introduce Baby to Cake: If your baby hasn’t tried cake before, give them a small taste to get them familiar with the texture and sweetness.
  • Hydrate & Rest: Ensure your little one drinks plenty of fluids and gets a good night’s sleep so they’re happy and well-rested for the session.
  • Plan Outfits: Choose an outfit for the cake smash and another clean outfit for post-cake photos. Rompers, tutus, or simple onesies work great. Avoid outfits with tight elastic that may leave marks.
  • Avoid Staining Foods: Try not to feed baby foods like berries or tomato sauce that could stain their face and hands before the session.
  • Pack Essentials: Bring wipes, nappies, a towel, and a change of clothes for both baby and yourself (just in case the mess gets on you too!).

Morning of the Session

  • Give Baby a Good Meal: A hungry baby might get frustrated with cake alone, so feed them a balanced meal beforehand.
  • Dress Baby in Loose Clothing: This prevents any marks on their skin before outfit changes.
  • Bring a Comfort Item: If baby has a favorite toy or dummy that helps them settle, bring it along.
  • Stay Relaxed & Keep It Fun: Babies pick up on energy, so keep the mood light and playful to encourage happy smiles.

During the Session

  • Let Baby Explore the Cake: Some little ones dive right in, while others need encouragement. We’ll give them time to get used to it!
  • Encourage, but Don’t Force: If baby isn’t sure about the cake, try clapping, singing, or showing them how to touch it. Sometimes, a spoon helps too!
  • Be Ready for Messy Fun! Cake will get everywhere—that’s the magic of a cake smash! After the fun, we’ll have wipes and towels handy for cleanup.
  • Enjoy the Moment! This is a once-in-a-lifetime milestone, so soak it all in and let baby’s personality shine.

Cake smash sessions are all about fun, laughter, and making a mess worth remembering! Can’t wait to celebrate with you! 🎉💛

What to

Wear

What to Wear Guide – Dressing for Every Session

Choosing the right outfits for your photography session can make all the difference in how your images look and feel. The goal is to wear something that makes you feel comfortable, confident, and true to yourself while complementing the style of your session. Here’s a guide to help you pick the perfect outfits for any type of session.

General Tips for All Sessions

Comfort is Key – Wear something that makes you feel like yourself. If you’re uncomfortable, it will show in the photos.
Coordinate, Don’t Match – Choose colours and tones that complement each other rather than identical outfits. Neutral and earthy tones always photograph beautifully.
Avoid Large Logos & Distracting Patterns – Solid colours, subtle prints, and textures work best for a timeless look.
Consider the Location & Season – Dress appropriately for the environment, whether it’s a cozy indoor session, a breezy beach setting, or a lush outdoor backdrop.
Pay Attention to Grooming – Freshly pressed clothes, clean shoes, and well-groomed hair make a big difference.

Maternity Sessions

💛 Best Choices: Flowing maxi dresses, fitted gowns that highlight your bump, or soft, stretchy fabrics in neutral or pastel shades. We have lots available to use in studio so we have you covered unless you want something in particular.
💛 For Partners & Siblings: Simple and classic clothing in complementary colours (e.g., whites, beiges, soft blues, navy, or dusty pinks).
💛 What to Avoid: Super tight or restrictive clothing that may feel uncomfortable during the session.

Newborn Sessions (Studio & Lifestyle)

👶 For Baby: We have lots of outfits for bubs so you don’t need to bring anything for them.
👶 For Parents & Siblings: Soft, neutral tones like whites, creams, and pastels. Flowy dresses or relaxed, well-fitted outfits work beautifully. We have heaps of dresses for mums and girls dresses up to size 10.
👶 What to Avoid: Bright, neon colours or loud patterns that take attention away from the baby.

Family Sessions

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Best Choices: A mix of textures and soft colours like beige, cream, dusty blue, olive green, or muted pastels. Dresses, linen shirts, and casual jeans create a timeless look.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 What to Avoid: Matching outfits for everyone (e.g., all white shirts and jeans). Instead, coordinate with a mix of tones and textures.

Milestone & Sitter Sessions

🎈 Best Choices: Rompers, simple dresses, soft knits, and neutral colours. Bare feet look adorable in milestone images! We have lots in studio to use unless you have something you want them to wear.
🎈 Accessories: Cute bonnets, headbands, or minimal props that match the theme.
🎈 What to Avoid: Anything too tight, overly layered, or distracting patterns that take away from the baby’s expressions.

Cake Smash Sessions

🎂 Best Choices: A cute romper, tutu, or suspenders in light, neutral, or pastel colours. We do have several outfits to use in the studio.
🎂 For Parents: If you plan to be in photos, wear something simple that coordinates with the theme.
🎂 What to Avoid: Outfits with tight elastic bands that might leave red marks, and dark colours that can clash with a colourful cake.

Final Tips

Bring Options: Having a second outfit or layers (like cardigans or scarves) can add variety.
Dress for the Weather: If it’s cold, opt for stylish layers; if it’s warm, choose breathable fabrics.
Consider Footwear: Barefoot is great for some sessions, while neutral or classic shoes work best for others.

Most importantly—wear something that makes you feel amazing! Your confidence and joy will shine through in every photo.

Planning How to Display Your Beautiful Images

As you prepare for your viewing appointment, take some time to consider how you’d love to showcase these special moments in your home. Most of our clients choose to leave with at least one stunning printed piece alongside their digital images.

Would you love a beautifully crafted album on your coffee table or bookshelf, ready to flip through and relive those precious memories? Or perhaps a striking statement piece for your wall that catches your eye every day? Maybe a collection of images displayed together to tell the unique story of your family? Whatever your vision, we have the perfect product to bring it to life.

All of our prints and wall art are produced by professional photographic labs, ensuring exceptional quality that lasts for generations. In fact, our canvases come with an incredible 75-year replacement guarantee—so even if life happens (like a little one jumping on the couch, knocking it over, and breaking it), we’ll replace it for you at no cost.

These are more than just prints—they’re timeless keepsakes that will be cherished by your children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren for years to come.

The best thing about Memories is making them

We use amazing software that lets you preview your photos on your wall at the exact size before making a purchase. This ensures your artwork will be the perfect fit for your space and complement your home’s style.

To make this happen, simply take a few quick photos of the areas where you’re considering displaying your artwork—your phone camera is perfectly fine! Send them to us, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Follow the three simple steps below to capture the best images, and if possible, email them to us before your photo session.

1

Grab a A4 piece of paper and stick it to your wall where you would like to put artwork

2

Now grab your phone and back up so you can get a floor to ceiling photo of that wall as shown in image here.

3

Take an image straight on and not at an angle. Angles won’t reciprocate correctly in our software to create a correct visual.
